High Alert - Up For Grabs Comment on An Education System For the 21st Century
Professor Gus John has written a paper contributing to the current debate on the Education and Inspections Bill. The paper is a comment on Professor Peter Mortimore's independent review of the NUT's Education Statement: Bringing Down the Barriers and the Government's White Paper: Higher Standards Better Schools For All.
High Alert - DfES White Paper: Higher Standards, Better Schools For All Professor Gus John has written to the Commission for Racial Equality expressing grave concern about the fact that this White Paper fails to comply with the requirements of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 and other Equality and Human Rights legislation, especially relating to the rights of the child. The White Paper is now the Education and Inspection Bill. The Prime Minister has made it clear that the reforms if approved by Parliament will be ‘irreversible’. GJP thinks it essential, therefore, that the Government demonstrate how the new arrangements for providing schooling will comply with race relations and other relevant legislation and will ensure local access to a good school offering high quality education for every child.
